Meet the FAN Founders: Dr. Horowitz and Dr. Geller

Dr. Geller and Dr. Horowitz, Founder of Foot and Ankle Network in Florida

The Foot and Ankle Network (FAN), an organization to help manage the relationship between healthcare plans and podiatrists in Florida, would not be here today if it weren’t for the hard work and foresight of two men: Dr. Sam M. Horowitz and Dr. Edward N. Geller.

Below you can learn more about our founders, two men who both started their lives in New York and eventually made their way to Florida to greatly contribute to podiatry and the health care system at large.

Dr Sam M. Horowitz, DPM, FACFAS, C.Ped Senior Partner

Though originally from Brooklyn, Dr. Horowitz came to the University of Miami for his undergraduate degrees in biology and psychology. Then after a brief stay in Ohio to graduate from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, he came back to Florida to receive the state’s first surgical residency in podiatry.

In the 1970s, Dr. Horowitz founded the Foot & Ankle Surgical Group, Podiatry of South Florida. But by 1993, it was time for Dr. Horowitz to expand his sphere of influence in the specialty. Together with Dr. Geller, he founded the Foot and Ankle Network.

Dr. Horowitz has a unique understanding of the way athletics can affect the foot. Not only has he completed multiple marathons and half-marathons, but he’s also ridden his bicycle from Seattle, Washington, to Washington D.C.

Together with his wife, children, and grandchildren, Dr. Horowitz continues to live in southern Florida today. He is still appointed by numerous local hospitals and surgical centers and serves as the president of both the Foot and Ankle Network and the Foot and Ankle Surgery Group, Podiatry of South Florida.

Dr. Horowitz has been board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a licensed and board certified pedorthic, the art of footwear and foot orthotics to improve pain and foot conditions. Dr. Horowitz is also a member of the following:

  • Dade County Podiatric Medical Association
  • Florida Podiatric Medical Association
  • American Podiatric Medical Association

Dr. Edward N. Geller, DPM, CHCGM, FABQAURP

Dr. Geller started his education in the same state he was born: New York. At Hofstra University, he graduated with degrees in biology and psychology. Eventually he landed at Florida International University for graduate studies.

After leaving the state for a short time to attend Philadelphia’s Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Geller returned to Florida to complete his residency at Westchester General Hospital in Miami.

He went on to be the first podiatrist at Hialeah Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. In 1979, Dr. Geller joined Dr. Horowitz’s practice. Together, they co-founded Foot and Ankle Network in 1993.

Dr. Geller still serves as the serves as the vice president of both the Foot and Ankle Network and the Foot and Ankle Surgery Group, Podiatry of South Florida. He also consults for the Broadspire Disability Insurance Division.

In his spare time, this father and grandfather enjoys traveling and music.

Dr. Geller has been board certified by the American Board Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He is also a member of the following:
